Improving Indigenous Housing in Mexico City

Abstract

After a short historical review of the presence of indigenous people in México City, the paper analyses the causes of Indian immigration and their different settling processes in the city. The Indian presence in Mexico City can be seen through different demographic, territorial, cultural and organizational aspects as well as the habitat. The interest of local authorities for Indian housing is new and this paper presents the first results of a policy for the improvement of housing for indigenous people which started in 2000.
