Autonomía y reconciliación en el debate estético del fin de siècle: los casos de “The decay of lying” y News from nowhere

Resumen
Este ensayo propone interpretar “The Decay of Lying” de Oscar Wilde y News from Nowhere de William Morris como contribuciones al debate en torno al arte realista que tuvo lugar en el período victoriano tardío. En particular, compara el modo en que estos textos emplearon las estrategias de autonomía y reconciliación propias del discurso estético moderno. Con este propósito, el/la autor/a establece una matriz interpretativa a partir de la discusión de algunos recursos retóricos relevantes de la estética clásica alemana. De esta forma, logra identificar y analizar las principales similitudes y diferencias del esteticismo desarrollado por Wilde y Morris y, finalmente, propone revaluar la definición de autonomía como “inutilidad”, comúnmente utilizada en los estudios sobre el esteticismo británico.Palabras clave:
