Process of evaluation by referees

Every article starting a review process at the Revista Chilena de Fonoaudiología is subjected to a peer-review process, using a double-blind arbitration, that is, the name of the authors and that of the referees is anonymous during the process.

  • Once an article is received, if it fulfils the formal aspects established by the journal, it is reviewed by the editor-in-chief or the co-editor.
  • The editor decides if the manuscript is recognized as relevant, according to the editorial line of the journal. If it is relevant, the article will be sent to the corresponding editor of the section for peer evaluation.
  • The manuscript is sent to two reviewers, experts in the subject addressed in the research. If a conflict of interest should exist between the authors and potential reviewers, a note should be sent to the editor of the journal, indicating the names of the people who desirably should not participate in the arbitration process. In that case, the Editorial Committee will send the work to other reviewers. The information regarding this point is completely confidential.
  • The editors of the journal send the authors the comments and suggestions made by the unnamed reviewers.
  • In the case of disparate opinions of the experts, the editors of the journal decide whether the manuscript will be sent to a third reviewer, it will be published, or it will be rejected.
  • If the reviewer presents observations, the author will have a period of four weeks to correct them in the case of minor observations and eight weeks in the case of major observations.
  • The fact that an article submitted for evaluation is approved by the reviewers does not imply its immediate publication. The final decision for the publication or rejection of an article is the responsibility of the editors of the journal.
  • Once a decision is made regarding the publication of the article, the author will receive a direct and written notification informing them of the final decision.
