Abstract

On occasion of the importance developed by Japan when ruled by the Meiji Dinasty, many occidental countries started diplomatic relations with this country. Chile began its diplomatical connection to Japan in 1897. The author studies the activities of the chilean diplomats from 1910 to 1920, focusing on the achievements carried out by Francisco Javier Herboso España (Quillota, Chile, 1861 - Tokio, Japan, 1915). Among these, he traces the commercialization of chilean nitrate, the establishment of japanese companies in Chile and the study of the possibility of migration of japanese people to the chilean country.
