Abstract

The sexual health of young people can be impeded or hampered in their development by educational barriers. This paper analyses an educational barrier for the development of sexual health in young Chileans between 15 and 29 years of age: educational level. A secondary analysis of the Ninth Youth Survey of the National Institute of Youth was carried out, consisting of descriptive analysis, association of variables through the Chi-square test and the calculation of Odds Ratio. The results indicate that those who have complete or incomplete basic educa¬tion tend not to use contraceptive methods in the last sexual intercourse, have low levels of knowledge about the forms of HIV infection, and higher levels of violence in the relationship. The need to extend the coverage of sex education programs to provide quality education that allows greater sexual well-being in young people is discussed.
