The present article analyzes the curriculum redesign that law career has been undergone at Atacama University (UDA), it is a process in which has been involved a paradigm of the formation by competences in its learning plan. For this reason, the pedagogical challenges involved in the acceptance of this approach will be studied and the methodology usually used in the teaching-learning process of law will be also revised and updated. Finally, it is going to be determined if the training based on competence has as the only purpose to train a qualified professional to respond to the demands of the labor market by over an intellectual dimension that in addition, it includes the development of legal knowledge and background.
