This work collects data about reading speed of Law students and thus contributes to the academic work load distribution rationalization, within the framework of a credit-per-subject system. In order to achieve this, an empirical study of reading speed was carried out with two hundred students, using new technologies. The results show that the 2020 cohort reads at an average of 177.91 words per minute with an adjusted reading comprehension of 64.38% and the upper classes read at an average reading speed of 227.5 words per minute with an adjusted comprehension of 79.49%. In consequence, it can be stated that 90% of the 2020 cohort reads between 109 and 265 words per minute of the analyzed text and that the same percentage of the higher cohorts reads between 109 and 391 words per minute of the other analyzed text.
