The purpose of this study was to analyze the perception of teachers and directors of law schools, professionals from different branches of law and representatives of civil society organizations, regarding the minimum knowledge essential for the beginning of legal practice. The study was carried out within the framework of the project «The DNA of the legal profession» carried out by the Study Center for the teaching and learning of Law (CEEAD). The information was obtained through four online questionnaires, which included 237 pieces of information about the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to begin legal practice. Stratified random sampling was applied and descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were used to characterize the population and make comparisons. In addition, the non-parametric Chi square test (χ²) was used to analyze the proportions in the categorical variables, segmenting the results by sociodemographic variables. The analysis corroborates the hypothesis revealed significant differences in the selection of some knowledge of legal practice, mainly influenced by three factors: type of legal profession, level of education and years of experience of the people who responded to the questionnaires.
